Medicine Buddha resides in his eastern pure land called “Pure Lapis Lazuli” or “Lapis Lazuli Pure Land”. The ground of this pure land is made of the precious lapis lazuli stone. Additionally, the buildings are made of the seven treasures. The Medicine Buddha resides in his pure land and the blue light of lapis lazuli radiates around him. As a result, those sentient beings dwelling in darkness who are exposed to the pure lapis lazuli light will be liberated.
Antiquated Medicine Buddha Statue Features
This antiquated Medicine Buddha statue depicts him sitting in full lotus pose on a single lotus pedestal. His right hand holds a sprig from the myrobalan plant between the thumb and index finger. The fingers are pointing towards the ground, plus the palm of his hand is flat and facing away from the body. As a result, his right hand is depicting the Varada “boon granting” mudra. Indeed, the Medicine Buddha is giving the gift of medicine to all sentient life.
Additionally, he also is seen depicting the Dhyana “meditation” mudra with his left hand. His medicine bowl rests flat in the palm of the hand and it is filled with the three lapis nectars. These three precious nectars will cure the poisons of greed, hatred and delusion. As a result, the faithful devotees of Medicine Buddha will be freed from suffering.
Furthermore, Medicine Buddha has the power to transmit good karma from one person to another. Through liberal recitation of the Medicine Buddha mantra devotees can cure the illness of loved ones and others. Simply recite his mantra over a glass of water 108 times and the water in the glass will carry the healing properties of the good karma.
