Our beautiful Green Tara Bodhisattva statue is clothed in elegant robes and she wears jewels and the crown of a Bodhisattva. Furthermore, in each hand she gently holds the stem of a lotus flower between her index fingers and thumbs. The flowers grow up her arms and are set to blossom over her shoulders. As a lotus flower will spring forth in a pond, so will purity and the rewards of Nirvana when devotees have been faithful to their practice. Additionally, her left hand is held close to her heart and is expressing the protection mudra.

The Child of Compassion

Green Tara is the child of compassion and she came forth in immaculate conception. When Avalokitesvara witnessed the suffering endured by sentient beings his tear drops fell and formed a great lake. From the bottom of the lake a lotus flower grew. As a result, the flower blossomed at the surface and Tara sprang forth. Tara was broadly loved and accepted by devotees, so much so that there are many emanations of her. However, Green Tara is believed to be the initial and most endearing embodiment. Additionally, she is the consort of Amoghasiddhi who is one of the Dhyani Buddhas. Click here to learn more about the Tara Bodhisattva.
